Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, developing a strong core and improving coordination and balance. Pilates’ system allow for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
In Mat Pilates, your main resistance is the weight of your own body and supporting that weight while performing a wide variety of exercises. Every Pilates move, however, depends on principles such concentration, control, fluidity, breath and balance. Through a strong mind-body connection, your muscles become toned and you improve your overall ability to execute coordinated movements.
Pilates is good for everyone who would like to strengthen their core; from those beginning their fitness journey to advanced athletes, and even runners. Pilates can benefit anyone looking to improve their performance in a specific activity or just in everyday movements.
In a typical Mat Pilates class we use small hand weights, magic circle rings, weighted and non-weighted wooden bars.
I so look forward to my Wednesday Mat Pilates class with Lennie! After each class my mind and body feel re-energized and ready for the day. It means so much to have a dedicated instructor who motivates you to strive towards your highest potential. I highly recommend trying Lennie's Mat Pilates class - you won't regret it!
Lennie teaches group Mat Pilates classes at Donna's Home Fitness, located in Naperville, Illinois. Classes are held on Wednesdays. Class size is limited for better individualized instruction.
I have really enjoyed taking mat classes with Lennie. She comes into each class with an upbeat personality and a peaceful motivation to get all of her students moving. Her classes are challenging for everyone. New students are given modification instructions to ensure they use the proper techniques. I appreciate that Lennie spends time researching new exercises for us to try, while still following the well known Pilates progression. Lennie is always buying new toys for us to use in class. If you are interested in trying Pilates, I highly recommend taking a class with Lennie. She's one of the best!
